“Anastasia” is the latest single from Glass Cactus, following up their 2015 album “This Morning Would Suck(s) Without You”. They started to work on new material shortly after their debut release, returning to the studio mid-2017 with producer Nixon Boyd of Hollerado. “Anastasia” is a laid back but hard hitting alt-rock tune that tells the story of a man perpetually tormented and conflicted by his love interest. Confident that he despises her, he ultimately concedes to the reality that he will always return to and endure the relationship despite the misery. This song delivers contemptuous verses, heavy soaring choruses, and passionate interludes with a charming bitterness and authenticity that speaks to the human condition.
Glass Cactus is an indie-alternative band based out of Toronto, Ontario comprised of Aidan Fine (guitar/lead vocals), David Zimmer (lead guitar/vocals), Ezra Sherman (bass/vocals), Kabir Malik (drums), and Kai DeDonato (keyboard/vocals). Formed in 2013, the group has played in several cities across Southern Ontario and Québec; highlighted by performances at Lee’s Palace, Nathan Phillips Square, The Rivoli, and The Horseshoe Tavern. Drawing influence from the likes of blink-182, The Wombats, PUP, and twenty-one pilots, Glass Cactus is a fixture of Toronto’s independant music scene. They are best described as a blend of punk energy and indie vibes. Their live performances are dynamic, engaging, energetic, and according to their mothers, they’re not too bad.
